There was a George Ferren who was a DJ in the late 1970s at The Stud in San Francisco. Unknown if he was the author but it does take place partly at a gay bar.
Gene Bilbrew is regarded as the first African American career fetish artist. Born in Los Angeles, he later moved to New York City. His health was in decline by the time he was working on the Spades series and Club series, which would be turn out to be his last illustrated covers.
