Larkin was involved in the founding of the Communist Party during his time in the United States, before being imprisoned and deported. In Ireland he continued his labor activism through the Irish Worker League, which was recognized by the Comintern as the Irish section of the world communist movement. Larkin joined the Executive Committee of the Comintern in 1924.
