“Semigothaism” derives from an anti-Semitic twist on the Gotha Almanac, a handbook of Europe’s nobility. Adding “Semi” to the beginning of Gotha implied both Semitism, and impurity of nobility. This is a genealogical work alleging partial Jewish ancestry for many European nobles. This was the first year of publication; by the following year the publisher had been forced to retract dozens of allegations in the face of lawsuits by enraged aristocrats.
