Dakhu دخو [First ten issues, bound together]

Tehran: Shura-yi Nevisandegan (Writers’ Council), 1979. Set of the first ten issues of the humor newspaper, four pages each, 11.5x17.25 inches, stapled together at the spine with a special cover added to be sold as a bound volume. Horizontal fold, with some tears along the spine of the cover sheet.

Published in the revolutionary year of 1979, the cover promises “A humor magazine with an Islamic theme.” Contains political cartoons, jokes, and essays, many of them mocking Communists. Then-president Jimmy Carter, flirtatiously dressed women, the deposed Shah, Uncle Sam, and other characters also come in for a drubbing. The paper describes itself as Islamic, anti-imperialist, and anti-colonial. Dakhu (also spelled Daku) was originally a humorous bumbling villager created as a satirical character by Ali-Akbar Dehkhoda in the early 20th century.
