Special edition of the Abbey novel with a forward by Kirk Douglas, who starred in the 1962 adaptation "Lonely Are The Brave," also starring Gena Rowlands and Walter Mathau. The screenplay was written by Dalton Trumbo. Douglas identified with the novel, went through his own production company, and recruited Trumbo; the ex-blacklisted Trumbo was fresh off his recent "Spartacus" screenplay for Stanely Kubrick. Douglas considered the film his favorite amongst his work. Additionally, this edition's afterward was written by James Pepper and Ken Sanders.
