The Christian Socialist [bound volume of 32 issues]

London: William Reeves, 1883-1886. Whole numbers 2-34 of the magazine, lacking number 26, and with two different issues numbered 22 (March and April). There was no 23. These are bound together in library boards, with bookplate and card pocket; the front free endpaper has markings indicating its deaccession and sale in 1994. Boards edgeworn, spine chipped. Occasional pencil marginalia throughout, several ink stains to textblock edges, but the issues themselves generally in good shape.

The first issue here includes a paean to Karl Marx after his death, describing him as a vocal critic of Anarchism (though ads for anarchist publications, and occasional contributions by anarchist authors, appear in the journal's pages). Articles include coverage of labor tensions, discussions of land questions responding to Henry George, and of course a great deal on the theological basis of social justice. This publication continued until 1891.
