Marion had been a staff reporter for a Hearst-owned tabloid, The New York Daily Mirror, which he left in 1946 to write this pamphlet: "The press is seen as belonging to the state apparatus, and newsmen stationed abroad as forming part of a network of capitalist contacts and intelligence agents. The monopolistic Associated Press is contrasted with the democratic and truly free press of the Soviet Union." *Seidman M79.
