"On April 21, 1972, Louis Smith, chairman of JOB (Justice, Opportunity and Betterment), an organization of black UAW members at the General Electric plant in Cincinnati, Ohio, was convicted of carrying a concealed weapon and sentenced to one to three years in the Ohio Penitentiary. This was obviously a politically motivated attack on an effective and dynamic black trade unionist, and the IS has become involved in the Committee to Defend Louis Smith."
