Panama and the Canal - The Story of Its Achievement - Its Problems and Its Prospects. With Numerous Illustrations
New York: Dodd, Mead and Company, 1914. Hardcover. x, 468p., all photoillustrations listed by title in the preliminaries; we made a rough count of 150 (several to a page, some quite small, some fullpage), but the best assemblage this cataloguer has seen. Emphasis on the engineering process; also plenty of pictures showing how the teams lived and the Native Americans they lived amongst. Hardbound first American edition in squat thick blue-cloth boards, spine- and cover-titled gilt with sparse decorations in blind. Very sound copy with slight edgewear to extremities, spine lettering a bit dim yet legible, both hinges strong, front endsheets bear a neat rubberstamp of an address in Greenbrae CA and some bookdealer pencilling. Rear sheets have a tiny San Francisco seller's fiche and an erasure.
