Jusep Torres Campalans
Mexico: Texontle, 1958. Hardcover. 312p. in cloth boards, dj has medium tears at head of spine along with general edgewear, otherwise in very good condition. Reproductions of paintings credited to Campalans (and actually by the author) on small cards are tipped in throughout. Text entirely in Spanish, first edition stated.
As an exile from the Spanish Civil War in Mexico, Aub invented Campalans as a pseudonym to explore his own interest in painting. The author even managed to convince critics of the artist's existence through real-life exhibitions. This is a 'biography' of the fictitious Catalan painter that reflects certain parallels with the author's own life.
