The Soviet Power: The Socialist Sixth of the World, by the Very Reverend Hewlett Johnson The Dean of Canterbury. With Illustrations by Nowell Mary Hewlett Johnson
New York: International Publishers, 1941. Hardcover. xxviii, 352p., capable sketch illustrations by (the wife?), fourth printing in same year as first issue, hardbound in nicer-than-usual "International" cloth boards spine-titled in bright gilt and enclosed by a much-patched dust jacket, a very good copy of the book itself with marking: a neatly-applied rubber-stamp address of the Chinese YMCA Library on titlepage in English and Chinese. Expect the Dean's breathless accounts (writing in the first week of German onslaught) of Soviet superiority. He adds a second foreword written in the tenth week, sees nothing to retract.
