Forty Years of Struggle for a Principle: The Biography of Harry Fischel, Edited by Rabbi Herbert S. Goldstein - Compiled from Mr. Fischel's daily diary, newspaper clippings, editorials, and addresses delivered by him during his forty years of service to the Jewish Community.
New York: Bloch Publishing Company "The Jewish Book Concern" 1928. Hardcover. xvii, 404p., illustrated with numerous b&w photographs (of as many buildings as people), hardbound first edition in textured black buckram boards, panelled in blind and lettered gilt, t.e.g. (top edge gilded). A sumptuous if somewhat clumsy production, reminiscent of engineering textbooks of the period, but does the job of commemorating this fabulously wealthy builder / investor who indeed sent very large amounts of money overseas - to Palestine especially of course, but to a dozen different countries. Book's casing is edgeworn at spine rims & corner-tips, front & rear covers are dusted with a white something brushed up against, we have been able to remove most but not all of it. Aside from a generic bookplate on pastedown item is unmarked in any way. Hinges are good and sound, this is a good copy.
