Undated, but the legal battle cited here culminated in April 1950, when Harry Bridges was found guilty of having given false testimony during his naturalization proceedings, and his two witnesses in the citizenship ceremony, ILWU officials Bob Robertson and Henry Schmidt, were also convicted of conspiracy. The government had long sought to deport Bridges because of his labor activism. In 1953 the Supreme Court set aside their convictions because their indictment had occurred after the statute of limitations. The artist Rockwell Kent was an honorary member of the ILWU; this is perhaps the most striking artwork he produced for the union.
