Twenty-Eight Years in Wall Street
New York: Irving Publishing Co., 1888. Hardcover. xxiv, 717p., [xxi], hardbound in 9x7 inch dark green bevelled boards gilt (well over 2 inches thick), illustrated with numerous (48 or 50) fullpage portraits in wood-engraving and a frontis of Clews steel-engraved. A poor copy, though there is no sign anything is lacking: signatures are shaken, one protruding, both hinges broken to the fabric, irregular toning of paperstock, an inked ownership on ffep -- the general condition of a compelling book that has been "under-bound" and over-read. A "reading copy", in short, of an impressive relic of the nineteenth century American economy.
Much-reprinted. This issue, very possibly the first, is certainly very nearly so (the copyright being 1887). All plates (mostly portraits) appear to be present, including the one of Chauncey Depew (p.675) which one of our worthy competitors was missing; no great loss, be comforted, Sir.
