Calls for a boycott of a bakery as a protest against their retaliation against a union member. The Progressive Women’s Council (formerly the United Council of Working-Class Women, co-founded by Clara Lemlich Shavelson in 1929) had scores of chapters in New York City. They led boycotts, sit-ins, and rent strikes and organized women’s organizations in predominantly African-American and Jewish neighborhoods. Materials produced by the United Council of Working-Class Women and the Progressive Women’s are scarce (further, we could find no trace of any materials or information on Mager, Throne & Schines).
