Poetic drama written upon the news of Joaquin Miller's death, February 17th 1913. Includes a final tribute in poetry entitled "The Passing of Joaquin." Fruitvale is now a neighborhood in Oakland. In 1907 the Kyoto-born poet-philosopher married the sculptor Gertrude Boyle in Washington State, after fruitlessly searching for a place in California that would grant an interracial marriage license. Returning to the Bay Area, they lived at The Heights, the Oakland hills estate of Joaquin Miller, who had taken on Kanno as a protégé.
