Life and Labor Bulletin [55 issues]

Washington DC: National Women's Trade Union League of America, 1940-1946. Newsletter. Fifty-five issues of the monthly bulletin, 8.5x11 inches, generally around 4 pages. Issues present are nos. 8-11, 14-16, 18-26, 28-46, 48-50, 54-60, 62-64, 67, 72-77. Some issues have rust at the staple, or creasing; otherwise generally very good.

Much of the content of these bulletins reflects the increased involvement of women in wartime industry. Other issues include wage differences in the South, food prices, and protection of women workers after the return of men from the war. Some positions vary from the consensus of modern feminism; for example, No. 50 asks members to write to their representatives to oppose the Equal Rights Amendment, stating that “Many persons do not realize that this amendment, if passed by Congress and ratified by the states, would render unconstitutional all laws giving essential protection to the health of women workers, and that utter confusion would reign ever in the case of civil rights - property rights, inheritance laws, etc. - since it would be a question of which standard to adopt, the one pertaining to men or the one pertaining to women.”.
