Cover story on this issue is "A decade since Tehran - United States policy and colonial emancipation." The Council on African Affairs has been described by the African Activist Archive as "perhaps the first U.S. solidarity organization in support of African struggles against colonialism and apartheid." The newsletter issued updates on independence movements in Africa and the struggle against colonialism and racism. Leaders of the Council on African Affairs included Paul Robeson and W.E.B. Du Bois. In 1953 the CAA was charged with subversion under the McCarran Act. It disbanded in 1955.
