Breaking the war habit. Vol. 5 no. 6 (February 15, 1937)
New York: Committee on Militarism in Education, 1937. Newsletter. 4p., 8.5x11 inch newsletter, neatly fold-creased, otherwise very good. Also included is a two-page mimeographed announcement from October 16, 1940 that the CME was disbanding; there is a piece of old paper reinforcement tape at the staple and a penciled note, "Discontinuance of CME," across the top.
The newsletter provides updates on efforts to stop compulsory military drills at schools, and reviews relevant books. The later notice states that the changing political situation, the spreading war crisis and enactment of peacetime conscription had made the group's efforts "hopelessly out of date." Its papers would be donated to the peace collection at Swarthmore College. The letter solicits a final round of donations to cover existing debts.
