Oakland: M. W. Wood, Publisher / Reprinted [by] Holmes Book Company, 1883 / 1969. Hardcover. vii, 1001p., illustrations as called for, largely period portraits of bearded white males, hardbound in one of the libris gigantea formats of county histories, this the super-massive quarto in textured brown boards measuring 10.5x 7.5 inches, spine-titled gilt. The frontis portrait is of Addison M. Crane, a judge, his vita at p.865. A fine copy (pace a neat small ownership on pastedown) sound and cleanly, of a now & then useful book.
FYI, one of the common variants of county histories are the small folios, often oblong, which feature full-page and double-spread "views". We emphasize that the volume in hand has no views, just mugshots.
