The cast includes a couple of English travelers to Japan, and makes mention of cross-cultural contact. The play is preceded by detailed instructions on costumes, make-up, staging, and behavior. Part of a series of “Plays for Female Characters Only” whose advertised titles include “Gertrude Mason, M.D.,” “Murder Will Out,” “Social Aspirations,” and many others. Ads for the companion series, “Plays for Male Characters Only,” including “Wanted, a Mahatma,” “Riding the Goat,” and several with anti-black racial epithets.
