An advertisement in dialect poetry for sarsaparilla drink sold as medicine by Hood & Co. “Mine Moder-in-Law,” by the popular dialect poet Charles Follen Adams, is accompanied by illustrations of scenes and explanations of illnesses and their remedies with Hood products. A second part, “Sequel to ‘Dot Mother-in-Law,’” was written especially for this advertisement. Adams lived in Boston, not far from Hood’s facilities in Lowell.
