Cat.No: 298657 Palabra por palabra. Poesia. Saul Ibargoyen Islas.

Palabra por palabra. Poesia.

Mexico: Axel Editora, 1979. Paperback. 166, [2] pp., portrait, wraps. 7.5 x 5 in. Portrait of the author on page [1]. Author’s presentation inscription on page [2]: “Para Daisy, con la segura amistad y con la necesaria confianza en su y nuestra patria, [signed] Saul Islas.” A few pages creased and the fore-edge of a few pages nicked, but otherwise a very good copy. Edition of 3,000.

Second, expanded edition of one of the author’s most well-known collections of poetry, first published in Uruguay in 1969 by Editorial Alfa but including work from as early as 1956. In the preface, Islas reflects on how the military dictatorship, initiated in 1973, altered the relationship between the masses and literature. Islas left Uruguay in 1976 and re-settled in Mexico where he died in 2019. This copy was apparently inscribed to a fellow Uruguayan.
