LaMorticella was an early member of the political theater company, the San Francisco Mime Troupe, from 1965 to 1968. She was also one of the founders of the Diggers, a community action group based in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood that put on shows and parties and operated free stores to distribute food and resources. She hosted a radio show centered around poetry for 25 years, and was selected to receive the first Soapstone Bread and Roses Award in 2019. She now lives outside Portland, Oregon.
