For Violet & Be Your Own Androcles Two poems, original manuscript and carbon with hand-corrections

Hollywood: Unpublished, [1940s]. Two 8.5x11 inch sheets, one appears to be typescript the other more likely carbon copy, both hand-corrected in ink, fold creases and wear at edges, toning and light stains.

Sir Douglas was of landed gentry and a close friend of Walter Pater, Aubrey Beardsley and Oscar Wilde. He was also the "Dear Ainslie" of the Conan Doyle letters. He lived in the 1940s in Hollywood, at first at Alto Nido on Franklin moving nearby to a less auspicious apartment building on Holly Drive. He never married, may have been gay (considering his lifestyle and acquaintances) and died in 1948. The heavily-corrected (by his hand) poem "Be Your Own Androcles" has had the original title "Rethink Your Past" scratched out and the preferred title inked in. Also scratched out is the Alto Nido address with the Holly Dr. address penned in.
