Under the leadership of Gustav Krupp, the company had been the chief manufacturer of arms for Germany in World War I, but had been forced to diversify its products after the end of the war. Krupp, who initally opposed the Nazis, would go on to become an enthusiastic supporter and the Krupp company was a key supplier of arms to the Nazis during World War II.
