[Eight color snapshots showing Southeast Asian soldiers and US GIs training together]

n.p. n.pub. 1970. Photograph. Eight 3.5x3.5 inch square Kodak color snapshots dated January 1970, removed from an album with parallel lines on reverse from the wax backing, two photos with small parts of the image peeled.

The photos show at least two different American soldiers in various positions with tanks or guns as they engage in some sort of military exercise with at least three different Southeast Asian men in uniform. The setting is in a valley surrounded by low mountains; tanks move in one image and an artillery shell explodes in a field in another. All but two of the photos have at least one person in the shot. Some hints suggest this may have been a training ground in California; there is a box with a label that can be read with a glass as saying "[Coach]ella Fruit Growers Assoc" on a shelf behind one of the trainees in one photo, next to a California flag pinned to the wall, though these items could of course have been taken anywhere else in the world by one of the GIs. An expert in the military history of the period could doubtless piece together more clues from the uniforms and vehicles than can your humble cataloger.
