Red Tail Hawk at Coyote Hills Regional ParkWith, if you look closely, not one but two leg bands... orange and white. I'm sure it was like... "Not again. How 'bout I just tell you where I've been."
And one more bird shot from the walk, perhaps not deserving front page placement due to the rather unromantic metal post it is perched on but still, a nice shot of a Tree Swallow:

View of San Andreas Lake as seen from the approach to Sweeney Ridge. The fault was originally identified here by UC Berkeley geology professor Andrew Lawson in 1895, who chose to name it after the lake.

Forgive this brief foray into the personal:Stow Lake was an important place for my wife and I during in her last 3 months, as cancer took its toll on her body. The easy walk, many benches and glorious animals gave us much joy in a difficult time. She had hand-made a series of these Christmas ornaments long before we had met. It gives me (us) great joy to share them via the community Christmas bush at the lake and now here, with you. Merry Christmas from us.
December 21, 2021
And the first Great Blue Heron sighting of the season at Stow Lake:iIf past experience is any indication, soon they will be building nests high in the tree on one of smaller islands in the lake.

Much work, much rain, so not much new in the way of pix. Still we have this lesson in horizon, courtesy of a gorgeous day after a storm blew the atmosphere clear:Note the Farallon islands appear as they usually do ...(when you can see them from the City)... on the horizon. But climb up Montara Mountain and at 1600 ft above sea level, the horizon is further away ... you can actually see water behind the islands:
I know. Who cares? Well, I thought is was pretty neat. But then, it don't take much.
December 8, 2021
Hard to believe...
....that it was around 2001 when the first of the new wave of coyotes arrived in the city. Now, its like... whatr's that. Oh, just a coyote. Only the Ravens seem to get excited.

An off day amble... After a frustrating morning of waiting on plumbers at the apartment, I headed out in the later afternoon ...no particular place to go but that's normal for me. Golden Gate Park is a good first option so I set my sites on the Alvord Lake Bridge and points beyond, remembering as I entered the park that it was Outside Lands weekend and maybe GG Park was not such a good idea. Made my way toward the Arguello gate. After a pleasantr conversation on the Oak Woodlands Trail, I headed to the Presidio and ultimately the Crissy Field Marsh. Had the Macro Lens on the Camera (a personal favorite)... Here's the thing... No matter what lens I mount, I always end up wishing I had chosen a different one. Today was no exception. In this case, I glanced up and saw this:
A Sunbow! To be tediously accurate, "cloud iridescence." No matter what you call it, It's really cool to see and relatiuvely uncommon. Nor surprisingly, I could not get the a wide enough shot to fully capture what I was seeing. No problem. I still have my trusty Smart phone camera. Whipped it out and captured this:
Not bad, eh? I'd love to tell you I planned to get that bird in the shot but the truth is, 'twas nothing but dumb luck.
