The Heavenly Tones were an all-female high school gospel group comprising of Vaetta Stewart (or Vet Stone), Mary McCreary, Elva Mouton and Tramaine Hawkins. Vaetta and the Heavenly Tones were recruited as background vocalists by her older brother Sly Stone for Sly and the Family Stone. Their background vocalist group was called "Little Sisters." The Afro-American Folkloric Troupe was founded by Marc Primus of San Francisco in 1966.
