Mexican Labor News [182 issues]

Mexico City: Press Department of the Workers University of Mexico, 1937-1945. Newsletter. One hundred and eighty-two issues of the mimeographed newsletter, 8.5x11 inches, pages toned, generally minor edgewear; a few examples with missing staples or fold creases. Many have mailing address printed on the blank verso of the last page; some have corner stains. Production quality varies; many are mimeographed on pre-printed letterhead, but a few are so crudely produced that they don't even have a title; the original recipient has added it in pencil. The numbering of issues is also inconsistent at times; some issue numbers have been reconstructed by checking the dates. The most severe errors are pointed out below. Issues present are Vol. 3 nos. 1, 2, and 17/18; Vol. 4, No. 12; Vol. 5, Nos. 12, 23; Vol. 6, No. 12; Vol. 7, Nos. 6, 11, 13-14, 30, 31, 33; Vol. 8, Nos. 1, 4-5, 7, 9-17, 19-24, 27-31, 33-37, 39-48, 50-53, 57, 59-66, 68-69, 72-75, 76, 77, 78, 79, 80-84, 86-94, 97-101, 104-106, 108-123, 124 (two different), 125, 126, 128-130, 132-134, 136-143, 145, 148-150; Vol. 9, Nos. 1-4, 9, 14-20, 26-28; Vol. 10, Nos. 2-4, 8-10, 12, 15-23; Vol. 11, Nos. 2, 4-5, 8-9, 11-12, and 14; followed by unnumbered issues only giving the date: February 1st, March 12th, April 10th, April 26th, May 17th, and June 28th, 1945. Vol. 8, No. 31 is misprinted as No. 30 but is deduced to be No. 31 from the date. Vol. 8, Nos. 93 and 94 have been misprinted as Nos. 33 and 34, respectively. Vol. 8, No. 106 has been misprinted as No. 105, based on the date. Vol. 9, No. 1 has been misprinted as Vol. 10, No. 1, based on the date. The issue numbered Vol. 10, No. 24 would seem to be Vol. 9, No. 9, based on the date, but the date may also be in error! There is one “Special Edition” issue in tabloid newspaper format, dated March 1941.

The Workers University of Mexico was founded by Vicente Lombardo Toledano, described by Barry Carr as "the best-known link between Mexico and the international world of Marxism and socialism." These newsletters discuss many aspects of the Mexican labor movement, including activism, legislation, and court battles.
