Braden–a businessman, diplomat, and lobbyist for the United Fruit Company–encourages US intervention in Latin America to stop unions and communists, with much criticism directed at Peronism and the administrations of Guatemalan presidents Juan Jose Arevalo and Jacobo Arbenz. (Arbenz was deposed in a US-backed coup about the year after this speech was delivered, apparently with Braden's assistance).
