Lettres a Angèle par André Gide 1898-1899

Paris: Edition du Mercure de France, 1900. Paperback. 176p., 5x5.75 inches, texts in French, light pencil marks and notes likely by poet Agnes Tobin who signed on the first blank and dated July 27th 1911 at the Curzon Hotel, first edition limited to 300 copies on Holland Paper, lightly worn and toned paperback with untrimmed edges in oat wraps.

Twelve of the thirteen letters published in l'Hermitage.

Tobin was a well-known poet from San Francisco at turn of the century, long forgotten now. But she was a major figure in SF and in England and Europe. She was close friends with Alice Meynall and was included in her literary circle along with Yeats, Pound, Gosse, and Augustus John. She lost her family home to the 1906 earthquake which possibly explains her residence in Curzon Hotel.
