Le mois illustré. No. 1. Avril 1956.

Paris: Mois Illustré, 1956. Newspaper. 24 pp., illustrations, wraps. 13.75 x 10.25 in. Small tears to the fore-edge on some pages. Covers slightly wrinkled, and signs of minor handling. Colophon: Imprimerie Moderne de Biarritz.

Debut issue of a French monthly edited by V. de Valence. The centerfold is an excerpt from a novel, Monsieur sévère. Also includes a profile of the Chinese quarter in Paris at the Gare de Lyon, the Cannes Festival (then celebrating its 10th year), and a photo-essay on the art of the strip-tease (with a sarcastic title, Il vous est interdit de décrire le Strip-tease mais vous pouvez le voir [You are prohibited from describing the striptease but you can see it]). The leading story is about a series of robberies by a band of criminals who use masks modeled after heads of state (e.g. Dwight Eisenhower and Winston Churchill). This short-lived publication closed after its second issue.
