Much on "The Struggle for Confucius Plaza," an important organizing effort to force the DeMatteis company to hire Asian American workers at its Plaza construction project. "AAFEE came into existence six months ago in order to fight discrimination in the construction industry and to fight for the rights of Asian-American workers. A $40 million construction project in the heart of Chinatown with no Chinese of Asian-American worker [sic] is a slap in the face of the community." AAFEE, which was connected to Jerry Tung's Asian Study Group (later renamed the Workers' Viewpoint Organization), garnered extensive recognition for its success in this effort.
