The Way to Happytown.
Jersey City: Colgate-Palmolive-Peet Co., 1929. Staplebound. 15 pp., color illustrations, color printed wraps. A single vertical fold runs down the entire textblock. In this copy, only a few leaves have been colored green by a (presumably) young hand.
An interactive book and advertisement for toothpaste targeting children. The kids in the story are looking for Happytown, a land with no toothaches. The animals they encounter along the way advise they will only be able to enter if they have “strong” and “white” teeth. Some of the illustrations are printed in color and some invite children to color in themselves. A blank form on page 13 is for children to record their brushing habits, which when completed was to be mailed to the company for a badge.
