The road, which ran from the Piazza Venezia to the Colosseum, was built between 1924 and 1932 and was intended as a "mighty symbol of that Will of the Nation which draws power and firmness from the supreme virtues of Ancient Rome," according to the text of this brochure. It was inaugurated with a military parade led by Mussolini, whose picture is included here.
