We petition you... [printed petition opposing military segregation]

New York: American Youth for Democracy, [1944]. Handbill. 8.5x11 inch sheet printed one side, horizontal fold crease. At bottom is penciled "CP front - formerly YCL" and the date of receipt (June 1944).

Petition addressed to Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson and Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox. "We, the undersigned, petition you to end immediately all discrimination and segregation against Negro youth who are loyally serving, fighting, and dying in the armed forces of the United States. We ask that every man and woman wearing a uniform in our nation's service be accorded the full dignity and complete equality of American citizenship in training, promotion and assignment to active combat duty. Our voices are raised in this plea because we believe that to assure speedy victory over our fascist enemies it is necessary to end every practice of discrimination and segregation and to mete out punishment for every act of bigotry and violence against Americans in uniform."
