The emancipation of the Jews: the act that gave Jews the opportunity to be free men in a free world

New York: American Council for Judaism, 1945. Pamphlet. 12p. staplebound pamphlet, very good. Year of receipt (1945) penciled at bottom of rear cover.

Marks the anniversary of the 1791 emancipation under the French Republic, using it to launch a critique of Zionism and separatism. "The logic of history is inexorable. From 1789 to 1945, it has demanded of the Jew, that he must choose. He may elect to be part of a Jewish nation and contend, as the Zionist does, with other nations in the political arenas of the world, for national power and sovereignty over a greater or lesser territory. Or he may elect to be a member of a religious faith in all other regards integrated into the society in which he lives and having no political aspirations other than those of his fellow-countrymen."
