Narrative of a walk from San Francisco to New York, thence from England to Moscow, between 1960 and 1961. Includes colorful descriptions of participants and incidents along the way. Regina Fischer, the mother of chess champion Bobby Fischer, was a participant in the walk, and Lehmann mentions the group celebrating in the USSR when she got word of one of his victories. Chess was treated as a serious sport in the Soviet Union, and Lehmann says that Regina was quite popular during the march because of this connection. The publisher was connected with the Greenleaf Harvesters' Guild, a pacifist harvesting and pruning co-op.
