Doomsday Circus: a dramatic chronicle
New York: Contemporary Play Publications, 1938. Hardcover. 133p., foreword, setting, characters, good first edition play script in cloth boards and dulled gilt titles.
Basshe was born in Lithuania, a Jewish-American with Spanish ancestry. He founded the New Playwrights Theatre and worked with Provincetown Playhouse after graduating from Columbia University on a Guggenheim Fellowship. He was also an early member of the Communist Party's League of American Writers. Massive cast and set design, a condemnation of modern business and the dehumanizing economic system of the US. Likely his last play as he died in 1939 at age 42.
