Can you practice what you teach? The facts in the Gilgoff-Rosenbaum case

New York: Committee to Retain Gilgoff and Rosenbaum in Our School System, [1952]. Pamphlet. Four-panel brochure, 8.5x11 inches, creased from having been folded for mailing; "Academic freedom" and "1952" penned on front cover.

"A Negro, Henry Fields, was shot and killed by a policeman in Brownsville after a minor auto accident. Two teachers - Terry Rosenbaum and Max Gilgoff, life-long residents of the community, joined with other citizens to ask that the policeman be prosecuted..." The two teachers were threatened with dismissal for their political activities and under suspicion of being Communists."These teachers have shown that they not only preach equal rights for all in the classroom, but they also practice it in the community where they live. Their threatened dismissal would be a victory for McCarthyism in our schools, and a threat to our democratic institutions."
