A Short History of the English People - Illustrated Edition - Vols. I, II, III, IV, complete set in good shape

New York: Harper & Brothers, 1893, 1894, 1895. Hardcover. First issue of the splendidly well-illustrated version, complete in four matching hardbound volumes (possibly from the same set, but more likely, judging from content and holograph ownerships, bought in sequence, as published. All in the same condition, all rims bear short tears (v.1 rim tattered), all hinges sound, all plates fine, gilt titlings and top-edge bright, corner-tips good, two volumes have ownerships, all four sport the cute little fiche of seller W.B. Clarke in Boston. The selling point of this good (clean, unmarked text, great plates) is the condition: it is a great "breaker". Set as reading is passe" but such loving care presided over the reproduction of ALL images, from b&w vignettes to tissue-guarded color lithos, you and your scissors will have a field day. Wait til you see the fold-out color frontis of v.3, "Old London Bridge"! - FYI, the other images in color are of period costumes, &c.
