Shannon / New York: Irish University Press /Barnes & Noble [division of Harper & Row], . A nicely gotten up modern facsimile of the first issue published by Swan Sonnenschein in 1900: xxii, 427p., the b&w plates are reproduced fairly well and the three line maps exceedingly well with color onlays as called for. Hardbound in handsome openweave cinnamon cloth boards gilt, cover ornamented with a rising sun gilt. A clean, unmarked copy, quite sound except for one problem; the former owner scissored the frontis map (to free it from a too-tight insertion?) nearly severing it from the casing. We decided not to "fix" it as it is usable as is and could certainly be made worse. Ergo, complete handsome copy with an almost-detached frontis map.
