Seattle Helix Vol. 2, No. 3, Oct. 1967

Seattle: The Helix, 1967. Newspaper. 16p, tabloid, illus., very lightly and evenly toned, very good condition.

Early issue of Seattle's underground paper, which was distinguished by handsome art direction and illustrations, mostly by Walt Crowley, highlighted by this issue's split fount covers. Lead page inside is devoted to Crowley having to report to the induction center, which includes his statement that he is a "Marxist-Leninist with Trotskyist overtones" and that he is a member of the SWP's Young Socialist Alliance. Issue is printed dos-a-dos with two front covers, one apocalyptic, the other pastoral. Much discussion in the issue of the rise of heroin addiction in town, plus considerable material on Stop the Draft Week and related anti-war news. Enthusiastic review of a recent Charles Lloyd concert.
