Franklin Center, PA: The Franklin Library, 1981. Hardcover. Unpaginated preliminaries, 448p., illustrated as promised with three color plates on inserted coated stock, these three evidently the only DHL canvasses that fit the atmosphere and plot of this novel. Hardbound in 9x6 inch reconstituted leather boards gilt, raised bands, all edges gilt, placekeep ribbon, moire' endsheets; we see one flaw, a tiny touch of offset silver-foil to lower rim of spine (it cannot be erased). In all other respects a very good copy, entirely sound, clean, and unmarked by any ownership or institutional sign.
We were in Taos in the mid 1960s and saw privately-held Lawrence oils, from his "Plumed Serpent" period, which struck us as incompetent Expressionism. Be thankful that the several here reproduced are saccharine pleasantries.
