Take Over: vol. 1, #2, Nov. 24, 1971

Madison, WI: Random Louse, 1971. Newspaper. 20p., folded tabloid, illus., light toning, a bit of light fraying, else very good condition.

Take Over was one of the longer-running underground papers of which Madison had three simultaneously at one point. This issue has two full-page articles on Wisc. prisons, one by a prisoner inside Fox Lake Correctional Institution and another an overview of the Wisc. prison system as a whole. Also a two-page spread featuring an article by a Madison woman (Joanna Lupinek) who was at San Quentin in CA when George Jackson and other inmates were killed by prison guards: "The statement confirms prisoner accounts & other evidence that the killings were planned & organized murder by prison officials & guards." A 4-page center-section, ostensibly from 25 years in the future, includes a long stream of consciousness meditation on revolution by the Purple Sunlight Brigade, a future time-line, and other stoned gab. Back cover features a posed photo of "Mary Sativa" (Sharon Rudahl) pretending to buy a copy of Take Over No. 1 from a street seller.
