Detroit: The Fifth Estate, 1966. Newspaper. 8p., folded tabloid, illus., browned, small chips at quarterfold with some closed tears on spine, else good but delicate.
Early issue of the long-running Detroit underground paper. Front page features a long plug for two local SDS projects: the Radical Education Project (REP) and a "free university" sponsored by Wayne State SDS. A column by editor Ovshinsky reports on a local appearance by Paul Krassner, also: the first installment of a new column by Tim Leary, an interview with Courtland Cox about the Black Panther Party, and a Jazz column by Magdalene Sinclair. Main highlight of the issue: the centerspread is given over to Allen Ginsberg's "Wichita Vortex Sutra" poem.
