Guilin shi tu [US military reprint of 1934 map of Guilin, China] 桂林市圖

n.p. [194-]. 31x41 inch depiction of Guilin, a city in southern China's Guangxi region, comprised of two sheets taped together, dated 1934 under the key (stated second printing of a 1933 map). However, this is a WWII-era US military reproduction of the Chinese original, with a rubberstamp indicating that the map belonged to DIO-12ND (District Intelligence Office, 12th Naval District, based in San Francisco). At the time, with the US military working with China to fend off Japanese expansion, local Chinese maps were reprinted for reference. English translation of the title has been penciled in, but otherwise the original Chinese text remains unchanged. There are a couple of closed edge tears in the margin, and wear at the folds, with some splitting. For ideal long-term conservation, the adhesive tape holding the sheets together should be removed professionally.
