Mitchell writes in extensive, highly documented detail about the legal aspects of race relations and racism in America. He was an attorney in Philadelphia, and a former Treasurer of Howard University. The publishing entity was a project of the American Methodist Episcopal Church and one of the earliest African American publishers.
