San Diego CA: TrizecHahn Development Corporation / City of Pasadena, 2000. Hardcover. 67p., profuse captioned color photography on high-gloss paperstock with scattered blocks of text; hardbound in 9.5 inch-square "debossed" linen boards and dust jacket (f.y.i., "debossing" googles, appears to mean crushing openweave texture to apply titling inks). The book itself is nice and one of only 300 copies. Dust jacket on the other hand is badly torn and creased, with verso tape reinforcements.
Civic boosterism with an intellectual veneer: "As the 'Athens of the West', Pasadena is a city where philosophy combines with art and architecture to create an artisan utopia.. emigrants brought with them a desire to begin a settlement idealistically separate from the industrial cities of the time"
